New App removes the frustration of finding student housing

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – The shortage of university-provided accommodation for South African students means that nearly 40% must live off-campus. Those faced with finding off-campus student accommodation can face a long and frustrating search for the right place to live. Enter Ezilet, an accommodation locator app for smartphones.

Ezilet was designed to overcome the traditional search for student accommodation. Ezilet puts an end to wasted hours searching through often outdated listings posted on wall signs, or hopping from one internet site to the next, to phone call after phone call after phone call. Now, students simply pick up their phones, download the Ezilet app, and quickly filter and narrow their search to find their new home.

Lebogang Morule, the Managing Director of Ezilet, says the app gives students and parents a smart, easy way to locate quality off-campus accommodations right from the comfort of their homes. Morule noted, “The frustrations of wasted time and money will be a thing of the past as student accommodation facilities adopt this smarter way.”

The smartphone app launched in January 2018 with broad functionality, including:

  1. A central navigation/locality map with pins showing available properties and nearby landmarks or amenities
  2. Filtering searches by
    1. Property types: apartments, houses, garden cottages, etc.
    1. Rental and/or deposit amount
    1. Location: proximity to universities or job sites
    1. Lifestyle amenities
  3. Search for temporary and permanent housemates by sharing home listing and pictures on Facebook or on its own chatting platform;
  4. Early search process that allows students to locate accommodation for the next semester during the current semester, especially those who want to stay closer to the university
  5. Capability to rate or review the accommodation to guide fellow students away from poor accommodations

Students can begin using the popular off-campus accommodation locator app today by visiting the Ezilet website (www.ezilet.net) or downloading the app from the Google Playstore. The App has more than 70 properties in Johannesburg CBD, which serve Wits University and the University of Johannesburg students.
